The most notorious discussion topics online
Why are so many people thriving from controversial posts? Social media is for the purpose of connection and enjoyment. Waking up to create negativity for engagement is concerning and the most common virtual hobby many creators have found themselves participating in daily. While lighthearted fun and sarcasm is to be expected, intellectualism is under attack.
I’m not sure when circular arguments become so prevalent however it seems all a random person needs is a blue check subscription and they’re off to raising the blood pressure of strangers whether they believe in what they’re saying or not. From your most hated male podcasters dead or alive, to religious creators and feminine coaches flooding social media platforms with low-IQ, rage bait topics and inflammatory hot takes full of bigotry, debasing ranges of women, and outlandish ignorance.
This year has been nothing less than ghetto and nothing above shocking. I’ve compiled a list of topics that reigned supreme on social media apps this year in no particular order. These subjects not only gained the most engagement but created baffling responses and subtopics that made me question if George W. Bush should do jail time for his crimes against literacy and comprehension. Nuances be damn, wrap all this up and leave it in 2025.
- “How many bodies you got?”- Open any app you desire, and you’ll find a slut shaming post. Under this administration, the attack against women’s sexual freedom/reproductive rights became a trending topic. Sex crimes, femicide crimes, and medical racism continue to rise while countless of men deflect and target women online with half baked commentary.
- Megan Thee Stallion– Number one songs, a college degree, a devoted boyfriend, a boat bearing her namesake, and the hate is so visceral you’d think the comments are from a jaded ex. Somebody check on the Kevin Samuel’s devoted followers, their brains are falling off the bone.
- Women’s Dating Preferences– It is so hard to refrain from using the term “sassy” for this one. Women doing background checks, declining coffee dates and going to a man’s home on the first date and the response was an app (TeaOnHer) that just turned into a hub filled with revenge porn and harassment. We’re NOT shocked.
- Gay agenda– Of all the atrocities that have been committed this year the worst thing that went public was between Bill Clinton and Donald Trump’s mouth. Everybody ain’t gay, pleasure is a spectrum. By the way, EeeeeYUCK!
- Single mothers– The day after Mother’s Day it’s back to business as usual. The disrespect towards birthing people knows no end. I know we all weren’t raised by ideal parents however how many ways can a man say they hate women who give birth. That’s rhetorical by the way.
- Ciara’s marriage– Future’s locs have finally dissolved and Russell is STILL in love with his wife and children. Yes, I said HIS children. That’s what people do when they’re in love and married.
- 50/50 & courtship– Nobody wants advice about love from your scope of capabilities. There’s nothing wrong with Chili’s or a Michelin star restaurant for a first date. Just make sure that woman feels like the woman she deserves to be.
- Christianity v Spirituality v Spiritual psychosis– I didnt forget about Rapturetok and the tutorials on how to die. Scary times, tumultuous times.
- Single, unmarried, childless Black women– You’re going to look up, and you’ll be in an apartment all alone with a cat. Is that supposed to be scary or something? It’s either “not a flex”, we’re on vacation 24/7, or they don’t deserve to be fatigued and stressed. Talking about a lifestyle you willingly gave up and the people living is not a niche. Mwah, big mama no kids.
- Predatory micro aggressions towards children & minors– Blue Ivy is a child. The constant adultification of young Black girls has reached its boiling point. Black girls deserve to want to explore their interests and hobbies free of the criticisms of grown women who are scared to wear Ferrari red on their nails.
- Fat shaming & the policing of plus sized bodies– It’s nice to see plus sized creators continue to confront the fashion industry and their blatant discrimination against curvy and fat bodies. Excessive exclusivity is going to terminate the physical & virtual shopping experience. May I suggest sewing kits because they’re coming for straight sizes next.
- Robert Kelly and his contribution to the music industry– Imagine good music created ethically without hidden shame, victimization and men taking advantage of underage girls and boys. Talent will never absolve poor behavior. Music is very ancient and what Kelly has done, can and is being done again. Hang it up.
Being hateful and contrarian isn’t a niche. Please stop trying to making fetch happen. As this year concludes, keep your block game strong and your algorithm safe. Have a safe holiday as we count down to 2026.
